SHSM Arts & Culture Requirements

1. Required Credits (8 Credits)

  • 4 Arts & Culture major credits
  • 1 English credit (grade 11 or 12)
  • 1 Business studies or Canadian and world studies credit
  • 2 Cooperative Education credits

2. Sector Recognized Certifications and/or Training Courses/Programs

  • 3 compulsory: Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, WHMIS
  • 3 electives from a provided list (e.g., Health & Safety Photography, Film Editing)

3. Experiential Learning

Engagement in Co-Operative education, job shadowing, and work experience related to the arts & culture sector.

4. Reach Ahead Experiences

Opportunities to explore post-secondary pathways, such as field trips or interviews with sector employees.

5. Sector-Partnered Contextualized Experience (SPCE)

Participation in experiences focused on Innovation, Creation, and Entrepreneurship, typically involving field trips.

  • 4 business major credits with sector-specific knowledge and skills
  • 1 English credit and 2 mathematics credits (with CLA) or alternative for the workplace pathway
  • 2 Cooperative Education credits for real-world experience

2. Sector-Recognized Certifications and Training

  • Compulsory certifications: CPR Level C with AED, customer service, Standard First Aid, WHMIS
  • Elective certifications/training from a specified list

3. Experiential Learning and Career Exploration Activities

Including job twinning, job shadowing, work experiences, and business-focused workshops or competitions

4. Reach Ahead Experiences

Opportunities to explore future pathways in the business sector

5. Sector-Partnered Experiences

Engagements involving ICE, coding, or mathematical literacy with a sector partner

Health & Wellness

Through this sector, you’ll be able to take advantage of a wide array of healthy experiences, from interesting courses at school, to wonderful co-op placements throughout our community!

  • 4 major credits in health and wellness
  • 3 other required credits: 1 in English, 1 in Mathematics, and 1 in Science or Social Sciences and Humanities
  • 2 cooperative education credits in health and wellness

2. Sector-Recognized Certifications and Training

  • Compulsory certifications: CPR Level C with AED, Standard First Aid, WHMIS
  • Elective certifications/training from a specified list

3. Experiential Learning and Career Exploration Activities

Activities include job shadowing, work experiences, and health & wellness career fairs or workshops

ICT

ICT is a very cool sector. We have tons of intriguing events whether it be playing with robots, participating in hackathons or listening in on a university panel, that you wouldn't want to miss out on!!

SHSM Information & Communications Technology Requirements

1. Required Credits (9 Credits)

  • 4 sector-specific courses (e.g., Communications Technology, Computer Science)
  • 3 additional required courses: English, Math, and Arts/Business/Science
  • 2 Cooperative Education credits in ICT-related placement

2. Sector Recognized Certifications and/or Training Courses/Programs

  • 3 compulsory certifications: CPR Level C, Standard First Aid, WHMIS
  • 3 electives from options like website design, coding, digital lighting

3. Experiential Learning & Career Exploration

Opportunities include job shadowing, job twinning, work experience, and participation in skills competitions.

4. Reach Ahead Experiences

Activities to explore further education or career pathways in ICT.
